When not to scan text as text

Recently, a lab patron was scanning some documents. They were tax forms, such as a W-2, that contained columns and grids. A text scan using the OmniPage Pro program will not “see” these lines. It only scans the words. In this case, the documents should be scanned as images using Photoshop. The procedure for this is in the handout “How to Scan a Picture” at the lab desk.

A text scan should be done when the document is all text, such as a resume or a letter.
