I revised this information on connecting to our wireless network.

How to connect to Liverpool Library’s wireless network

The wireless network can be reached anywhere in the library. Both Windows and Macintosh computers can connect to it. The network uses the 802.11b protocol. If your computer uses 802.11g you can still connect to the network. Printing is not available over the wireless network.

If your computer displays a message warning that the wireless connection is not secure, this means that someone may be able to intercept your data, including your credit card numbers, passwords or other critical information.

Your computer‘s wireless card should automatically scan for available networks and connect to our network.

If you’re having problems….

Windows computers
Is your wireless card turned on? There may be a button that turns your card on and off. Check the Hardware Manager to be sure the wireless card is working.

Make sure your computer is “seeing” the correct network.
Open your wireless card’s software. This can be done by clicking on the wireless card’s icon in the Taskbar. The name of our network is LPL Open Wireless.

If you’re using Windows XP, the Wireless Connection Setup can be reached by going to the Start menu and selecting Connect To. You can then choose to Show All Connections or the connection for your computer’s wireless card.

To setup a new connection, go to the Start menu and select Connect To. Select Show All Connections. Under Network Tasks, click Create a new connection to use the New Connection Wizard.

You can repair your wireless connection by going to the Start menu and selecting Connect To. Select Show All Connections. Under Network Tasks, click Repair this connection.

If you have a home wireless network, check to see if its IP address is in your settings. If so, change it to DHCP and your computer should then scan for a connection.

Macintosh Computers
If you’re using OSX, go to Location (under the Apple on the upper left). Automatic should be checked. If you’re still having problems select Network Preferences. Click Airport. The Location menu should be set to Automatic.

If you’re using OS9, open the control strip. Click on the Airport icon and select the LPL Open Wireless network.
