I received this message today. It is a phishing scam. Whoever sent it is trying to get personal information, such as my ebay login, password and my credit card number. If you get this message, do not click on any of the links. If you want to check your ebay account, go to the ebay site and login.

How do I know it's jive?
1. It was sent to info@mailbox.lpl.org. They found this address on our web site's home page.

2. Although the From line in the header is Info@eBay.com, take a look at the sender's address: www-data@server.allgsm.ro. The "ro" domain means it came from Romania. Messages like these are routed through several e-mail servers, trying to disguise the real sender.

3. Several links in the message begin with "http://www.xs650.nl/......" The NL domain is from the Netherlands. If I click on it I'll probably be taken to a site that looks like ebay or has a login screen. If I type in my login and password it will be stolen and used by whoever sent this message to get into my account.

4. It says "eBay will never request personal data in email" but that's exactly what this message is trying to do.

Most links in this message point to the same bogus site. There are some links to the real ebay at the bottom of the message. But the link to change my ebay preferences is also bogus.

This message came with ebay graphics and the logo from TrustE, a group that verifies the legitimacy of online companies. It's easy to ripoff these graphics and it make the message look genuine.

There are lots of scams like this on the Internet. If you get a message about your credit card account or bank account, don't click any of the links in the message. Open your browser, type in the address of your bank and login to your account that way.
