Yesterday in the lab a patron was concerned when he went to the Hotmail site because his e-mail address already appeared in the sign-in box. This happened because he accidentally asked Hotmail to "remember" it.

On the sign-in page are three choices:

  1. Save my e-mail address and password
  2. Save my e-mail address
  3. Always ask for my e-mail address and password

The first two choices are there to make it easier to login, but are not good ideas for a public computer. Selecting number 1 would allow someone else to access your account. (This selection would be bad even for your home computer.) Number 2 can inadvertently provide your e-mail address to a stranger. If you don't want the address to appear in the box, select number 3. Hotmail used to have a button labeled "I'm using a public computer" but recently changed the selections.
